What could I put in a gift box for friends moving to Chicago?

I have friends moving to Chicago. As a going away gift, I'd like to make them a basket filled with things that remind people of Chicago. Something to make them feel a little at home before they go. To start, I was thinking of buying "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" DVD and something of the Cubs. What other items could I put in this big gift basket???

Well first off i am happy you're encouraging the Cubs and not the White Sox...well done.

Here's what i would pack (being from chicago myself)

1. Vienna Beef Hot Dogs

2. Old Style Beer (gross but totally chicago thing)

3. Bottle of Green Water (our river is green)

4. CTA bus/subway passes

5. While You Were Sleeping DVD (althoug Ferris is a much better choice)
Reply:how about adding some pics of you and your friends. Any special souveniers from things you've done together too.
Reply:ooo thats a cute idea! how about some lotions and earings and a stuffed animal of the Cubs!
Reply:Cubs eww...definately white soxs. hehe just a matter of opinion.

An I-pass if they didn't already live in Illinois (it's a electronic device for paying tolls on the tollways otherways they will pay 2x the toll on the tollways).

Deep dish pizza pan?

travel book for chicago

Blue CD (House of Blues in Chicago)

Plant (if they will be living in an apt with no yard gives them some nature in their home)

fire extinguisher (chicago fire)

Film/Book/etc in chicago

I hope this helps
Reply:well if you guys have good memories and a good relationship and took a lot of pics you should put some pics in the box so they can steel be close to you even if they are far away.
Reply:Hmm...don't forget White Sox memorabilia, Bulls, Bears, etc... You could also go online and buy them an I-Pass, which is the way to pay tolls here, and there are plenty of tolls! Also, a CTA card so they can take public transportation while they travel the city...

May I make a suggestion? Do half and half...meaning give them things pertaining to your hometown for memories and then new things for Chicago...They will pick up plenty of Chicago related things here, but when they are homesick, they may want some things to remind them of a more familiar time/place...Just a thought...

Also, Portillos or Gino's Pizza gift cards, windbreakers for the typical Freezing/Sweltering changes of weather...etc...

Good Luck!
Reply:A picture of the skyline of Chicago, something with the Bears logo, Blues Brothers.....
Reply:hair spray....so that their hair stays perfect in the windy city!!

a subscription to a local events magazine in chicago. something that talks about the symphony, baseball games, lake events, etc.

a bulls shirt

a cubs hat

a map of chicago

something that compares childrens schools (if they have or are planning on having kids)

a restaurant guide.

mace.....any big city can be dangerous

a 100 minute calling card and a huge list of phone numbers of their friends from their old home.
Reply:ok you want your friends to remember you ? put tiny stuff in a funny box with your names written on it, like photos, accesories (if they are girls) ,your favorite song,a video that you could make yourself about your city to make them feel always at home and good luck
Reply:for sure you have a great idea, I would put a few of those things in there that you mentioned. But I would focus more on things to remind them of the place they are moving from.Such as pictures or things that they can relate to. Have fun!! ?
