I'm making my friend a gift basket for her baby shower, filled with all kinds of fun stuff. She's a first time mom, her mother and father are dead and she had a REALLY hard time getting pregnant (6 miscarriages!!!) I really want to make this fun for her as well as extremely functional! I'm a mother myself and have put all the stuff I think she will need, but I need some more ideas...any help would be great! Thanks!
Unique baby shower gift ideas for a basket I'm making?
I'm sure with you being a Mom yourself that you have the bases covered pretty well. Just in case, some of the things I would include would be:
*Infant toiletry set (nail clippers, nasal aspirator, etc.)
*Set of cloth diapers for burp cloths (or actual burping pads but they are more expensive)
*The infant peekaboo mirror set that she can attach in the front of the car and peek in on her little one in the backseat while she is driving
*A cardboard book or two (Goodnight Moon or Guess How Much I Love You are good choices)
*Pacifier, rattles, baby bottle(s), socks, booties
*Mommy brag book
*receiving blanket, t-shirts/onesie(s), baby towel/washcloth set
*Baby toy or small plush animal (the ones w/ the pull-down string w/ music are nice)
These are just some things off the top of my head. I think this is wonderful what you are doing for your friend!! No matter what you pick I am sure she will appreciate you thinking of her. Congratulations to all!
Reply:I like to do gift baskets too with all the stuff that most people don't think about getting. I also do a themed basket, my fav. is using a metal wash tub, and stenciling the baby's name on the out side and getting all kids of duck stuff and putting it in it. It always goes over well.
Reply:A neat way to package the gift is to use a baby's bath tub as the "basket".
Add disposable cameras to the package...new parents never have time to get film....
A gift card for the baby's first professional photos.
Include gift cards for the local pizza delivery shop...they will need them!
Look into getting a maid for a day for the new mom...
Repeat gifts like Fruit of the Month club from Harry and David
Reply:Well, this wont fit in a basket, but this is what my sister done for me. She bought a sapling pine tree, decorated it with rattles, pacifiers, etc. Then she put on the card to plant it the day the baby was born. We done exactly that and its still growing along with my daughter. (My daughter is winning) Every time I look at that tree, I think of my sister and how I thought that was a good idea. That was 8 yrs. ago.
Reply:Go with the necessities over the unique. From experience, that day to day stuff is far more important than the unique.
Suggestions are baby bath, never have enough diapers, wipes, onesees, etc.
Reply:A pound of diapers.

these are really cute!
Reply:My Mom does gift bags for baby showers and always puts a rattle phone in them and tells the Mom to be that it's so the baby can call her anytime it wants to talk.
You could include a list with an explanation of why you included each item. She'll probably find that helpful about things she didn't know and if you add in some cute and funny reasons too, I'm sure she'll love it.
Reply:Hello.....
What about putting together materials for a baby massage kit? THAT is a great accesory to have....special time for mommy and baby that involves touch, smell, and sound!! They would BOTH love it!!
You can buy kits....or just put one together yourself:
Go online and look for instructions on baby massage. Handwrite out the instructions or think of some creative way to have them written down for the basket. Also, a bottle of Johnson's Lavendar baby oil or regular baby oil. A little baby neck pillow.....you could make one of these or just include a hooded towel that could be rolled up!! A relaxing baby music CD with lullabyes and soothing sounds (Target sells a great one called Nightscapes and Lullabyes??).
Just an idea....but I really enjoyed doing massage wtih my oldest daughter, she was my first. IT helped me bond with her and take specific time out of each day to do this!! I think she benefitted from it, too!!

Reply:I was thinking maybe something for mom and dad like a giftcard to fredericks or maybe theatre tickets; something for THEM that they will enjoy.
Reply:Give her a gift certificate for a manicure %26amp; pedicure. Or as some one else mentioned, a gift certificate for dinner for two or a movie.
Another idea would be disposable cameras. I know-there's digital and cameras on cell phones, but the disposable kind are unique in that poop, apple juice, strained peas and baby puke won't hurt them.
Include some home-made gifts certificates, too, for free baby sitting.
Get one of those kits that you can make a plaster cast of the kid's hands and feet. Mommies love that stuff!
And of course, baby wipes, diapers, burping clothes, etc.
What a cool friend you are! Have fun with it!
Reply:It won't fit in a basket, but I had a blast making a diaper cake for a friend of mine. I saw it on Sex and the City and knew I couldn't afford to buy one, so I made it. You buy a pack of diapers or two, a cardboard cake base and ribbon. Tie the diapers into rolls as if they're little diplomas with the ribbon. Then make a full circle of diapers, tied with a large ribbon. Then make smaller and smaller layers. You keep them all together with spools. Strewn across the cake you can put baby toys, bibs, clothes. It's unique and functional!
Reply:How about a gift certifacte for a local housekeeping place she can use to get the house cleaned after baby comes!
The book SUPER BABY FOOD by Ruth Yaron-it teaches you how to make homemade baby food what age to introduce foods, how long they freeze for, ect
If she's planning on breastfeeding THE WOMANLY ART OF BREASTFEEDING published by LLLI
Reply:the cute-est thing ive seen is a wicker laundry basket. you would open it up for her, and inside you would pull out a cloths line. with the help of a friend or two, you keep pulling out the line, and attached to the line with cloths pins are a bunch of different outfits.
Reply:They have these baby handprint making kits, I'm mad at myself for not doing it for my daughter when she was little.
Reply:piggy bank. gold ring. savings/college bond

Reply:Well i'm not a mother i'm only11 but you should ask her what she is going to name her baby and buy her baby towels socks and clothes with the babys name on it!! That would be awsome!!
Reply:Vouchers for things like babysitting while the parents go out and then for even things like giving the mom a manicure. Even a couple "emergency vouchers" that she can use when shes in a tight spot so she knows she can call you without feeling guilty. Time is a really appreciated gift.
