Where do I begin? I want to leave my job and start a few home businesses.?

I would like to do gift baskets full time, day care for a few kids and graphic design. I hate my current job and I'm ready to ditch it, but I know I can't do that just yet. Help!

Where do I begin? I want to leave my job and start a few home businesses.?
Wow, one thing at a time please? lol.

It most certainly is a good idea to start your own business, but you definitely have to take a lot of factors into consideration. Can you do without the security of a regular paying job? Can you multitask? Manage your finances, marketing, "operations", etc... all by yourself? Or can you afford to hire someone to do it for you? Also, do you seriously think U can manage a day care center, gift baskets and graphic design all at the same time?

If the answer to all the above questions is yes, then yep, you should go ahead and venture into the world of being your own boss. Don't let me scare you off the path of self reliance, I just feel you need to give it a really good thought before you decide to jump into it.

Also about starting all three things at once? Don't you think its like biting off more than you can chew? If I were you I'd take things one step at a time. Do some market research, find out if there is a good demand for gift baskets, of if there are a lot of busy parents around who'd want to leave their kids with you, or if you can find enough clients for your graphic designing services. Only then should you consider leaving your job.

Once you have decided that you do want to leave your job and that whatever venture you have decided to pursue is financially viable, you can seek help from various small business associations to help you get your feet on the ground. One good site to look for them is www.entrepreneur.com.

I hope that helped you.

Reply:I know what you mean about hating your job--I used to hate working for somebody else, too.

May I suggest looking for a business that you can do part-time from home when you're not working for your mean boss? It may not be what you're wanting to do permanently, but if it brings in money to help you save up for what you really want to do, wouldn't that be a good thing?

I work from home in a party-plan industry--Passion Parties. I would be happy to share all about my business with you. E-mail me for more info--tinaspassion@yahoo.com.

Whatever you chose to do, I wish you luck. We should all be empowered to leap from an unfilling life into a fulfilling one!

Reply:I have been doing day care out of my home for the last 12 years. You can make a decent income. It does tie you down to your house if you have several kids like I do. You do get tax breaks for having a home business. you can get people who don't want to pay, I never had that though. My kids are all word of mouth, through my church and friends. I am phasing out of it, burnt out after 12 years, want to be more available for my own kids.

I am now doing a home business on my computer. I am with a solid 15 year old health benefits company, over 1.7 million members. Offer daily pay, monthly residual pay, 401K , benefits for your family, 1099 at the end of the year for taxes. Awesome training . Check out my web site and see if this is something you might be interested in.
Reply:I'd have to agree with the answer that said starting 3 businesses at once might be a bit much! I would suggest staying with your job and test the waters by starting something part-time and get it up and running and making money. Knowing that you are moving towards where you want to be will get you through the horrible job since you'll know it's only temporary and is a means to the end of having your own business and being your own boss.

I can't speak to the graphic design or day care businesses, but there are plenty of companies you can join that could move you towards the gift basket business or that would allow you to make and sell gift baskets using the products that you get at wholesale pricing as a distributor. Joining one of these companies would not only get you wholesale pricing on products but also provide you training on planning and marketing which will help you with any business you decide to pursue or as you expand your business. I think joining a company with products you like and can use to make your gift baskets would be a great way to get started. You can make money retailing the products outright and start making your baskets and marketing those as well...so you have a way to generate income while you build a clientele for the gift basket side of your business.

I'm involved with a gourmet candle business and market natural, clean-burning scented candles. I also indulge my creative side by making gift baskets that always include my candle and bath and body products. If you are interested in learning more about my business and the company I am with visit my website www.GetGoodScents.com. It's fun, simple, and profitable and may fit in nicely with your desire to run a gift basket business. The company and our team offer great training and support on an on-going basis.

Hope this gives you some things to consider. Keep dreaming big and take consistent daily action to make those dreams come true!

Best of luck to you.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions I can help you out with.
