Gift basket for ill friend?

I have a 50 year old friend that’s about to be off work for a few months due to surgery. My coworkers and I would like to make a “off work survival basket” for her. I need help thinking of fun stuff to put in it. So far we have come up with a book, tea, a bell, activity books, hand held games, snack food, candy, nail polish. Any Ideas? Do you know of any good books to put in the basket?? Any ideas at all??

Gift basket for ill friend?
My mum was given something like this called a 'happy basket' when she had cancer for whenever she felt down she could open a present. Perhaps vouchers for flowers, vouchers for tickets to a show she wants to see. As for books Fiction - Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series are amusing Non-Fiction - Lance Armstrong's book about survival and the book called 'Between a rock and a hard place' about the guy that had to amputate his arm in order to survive are really inspirational. How about a photo of all the people organising the basket holding signs of well wishes??
Reply:Depends on the type of surgery - if it was hand surgery, then the books/games might not be the best option. Some ideas:

- Pictures of "the gang" at work to make her smile or laugh

- If she likes to sew, one of those quilt kits in a bag

- If she likes to scrapbook, some scrapbooking stuff

- A countdown clock (like you use at Christmastime) for how many days she has until she comes back to work
Reply:Lol a pack of pens for the activity book??

You seem to have it mostly covered. hand cream?? new slippers

I will cont' to think
Reply:How about a long distance phone card? I used one in the hospital, because you couldn't call long distance from the hospital phone.
Reply:a gift cert from Merry Maids - so someone can come clean her house/apt!
Reply:all the other items seem to be very good but what about a cheap cd player and some easy listening music ? maybe some celine dion or willy nelson , whatever shes into that is cheerful and would make her feel better.
Reply:Try "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks...Add tissues, wet wipes, non-messy snacks, bottled water, Reader's Digest, and maybe the loan of a laptop.
Reply:Hi i just made one for my sister, i called it a feel good basket, (she is stressed out) it had, candy, notebook Pen, samples of shampoo 2 small candles, bars of soap and some bubble bath, pack of gum, a card, brush, some small bottles of lotions and some homemade cookies, i filled with this pretty stuffing paper and added a bow, she loved it and it made her smile !!
