What are you doing of a wedding card holder for the gift table? Anything creative?

I thought about a basket but I think it's a little dull......

I don't feel like looking for a bird cage.

The cater is a rip off for renting them.

I refuse to pay $50 for something that is used once no craft store premade stuff.



I tried borrowing one and was actually given something but it turned out to be a rusty old mail box covered in satin with stuff hot glued to it- YUCK.



I could make a satin box but I want to see what other people were doing first.



If you can think of something that is reuseable that would be wonderful!!!

Forget the basket, birdcage or anything that looks pretty. Pick function. A big box with a tiny slit in the top that is wrapped in some kind of pretty wrapping paper is best. At my own wedding and every wedding I have ever been a part of, at least 10 or more cards were stolen or became "missing." People are dishonest and not only do employees of the reception hall steal but guests do as well. They know those cards have money in them. Make sure the box is secure and that once the card goes in that it isn't coming out until you take it out later.
Reply:The satin box sounds lovely. I know you don't want craft store stuff but one of my bridesmaids made this three-tiered cardboard cake with a hole on top to put the cards in. She covered the box with beautiful creme paper, lace and in faux pearl strands along the edges. It was amazingly beautiful. Perhaps you could make a satin cake box and decorate it as you like...



I also had a large vase filled with rose petals. The outside had a ribbon tied around it -- this was my "wedding wishes" jar that maybe you could use as a wedding card holder instead.
Reply:I used a cardboard box and giftwrapped it. cut a hole on the top of the box to slip the cards into. Wrapped a bow on top turned out really well. You don't need something extravagant. After all, it's going to be in the corner or side of your reception and all people do is walk over and place it in there, they don't sit and oogle that table.
Reply:At my cousins wedding this past june they actually had a mail box, it was on the mail box stand that you would see sitting outside someones home, and will sit outside their home when they buy one, I thought that was so clever. The box they chose was beaituful (not a plain black box) it was hand painted with birds and flowers, it sat right next to the gift table and we all put our cards right in as if it were mail.
Reply:What are your colors? Do you have a theme?

Edit- Those were my colors too! I think simple is always better, so how about a simple, low, LARGE display bowl for the cards?

- A mailbox. You can personalize it and use it later in your home! No money wasted, different and useful.

Reply:For my daughter's wedding I bought a wooden treasure chest at Value City which I think was around $10.00. We had a friend paint it (he's a professional artist) with a Precious Moments bride and groom on top and their names across the front. My husband put a very small block of wood in the one corner, just enough to hold it open to put the cards into. After the wedding, the block of wood was removed so they could remove the cards. This is something she can keep and has momentos from her wedding and bridal shower stored in. Make sure that no one can gain access to the cards at the reception. A friend of ours had all of their cards stolen at their reception from a box that had a large opening at the top.
Reply:Well next summer I'm doing the bird cage, the caterer wanted $50 to rent it and theirs looked well used and falling apart, so I went on Ebay and bought one.

My brother's wedding last year he had the same colors as you. (too bad he didn't save his, I'd have him send it to you!) He (well Mom did it!) covered a box with the chocolate satin and put a big pink bow around it (Like a wrapped present)

The basket is a nice idea but frankly I thought the point of putting them in something was so nobody could take them back out...

Can't really think of anything reusable that would be large enough...
Reply:I don't think the basket is a dull idea...actually i saw one with the same flowers on it as the table (the florist helped with that) and it was beatiful.



I used a stain box that was my sister-in-laws, can you borrow anyones?
Reply:I had a wrapping paper type thing made with some of our pictures and we jsut wraped a box with some pictures it looked awesome
Reply:my sister got this wishing well from oriental tradding and dolled it up with some ribbons and flowers with the wedding colors it looked nice and affordable trust me people are not going to be talking about it i n 3 years from now on oh they had this as the card holder
