I have heard of others sending gift baskets and such. This is the biggest possibility of my career (big money, big money, big opportunities). Any suggestions?
What I can above and beyond just the normal THANK YOU note following a job interview?
Don't send something that screams SUCK UP on it (and yes gift baskets, bottles of wine, etc. do just that).
Write handwritten notes to everyone; personalize them to the details of conversation you had...don't make them the generic "thank yo for your time, I appreciate your perspective (blah)".
Make them very specific to the conversation you had with each individual there, and then attach either an article from a newspaper or a magazine that is related......and then connect the two....in some way, show that the person had an impact on you and that you continued to reflect on the dialogue AFTER you left. They'll feel important and meaningful....not sucked up to. People who hire frequently actually get immune to the "same ole, same ole".....and they hate feeling that people only like them for their role in hiring. To feel like you connected beyond the role of hiring is to make a real connection--so create one!
Reply:DO NOT SEND A GIFT BASKET!!!! Many companies are not allowed to take gifts of any form, and it would leave the interviewer in an awkward situation.
Send a bang up thank you note over email or put it on a personal letter head. I personally like them over email because I can see how proactive the person is, did they send it two days later, or right when they got home. Reference your work history and how it relates to the job. Remind them of your skills sets. And if it's a sales job, pester the heck out of the sales manager for a decision (it shows you have follow up skills). Don't pester anyone else, that just get's annoying, and you will lose your chances for the job.
