Starting a gourmet gift basket business from home, need liability issurance?
I'd suggest asking the company you already have insurance with. You may get a discount for having another type of insurance with them. I don't know how much to be covered for, that's something you'd have to ask them. But I'd think at least $100,000 would be safe, maybe more. $1 million seems really high. Check with wahm.com. I think there are some women who have this kind of business there. I sell Watkins kitchen products and can do gourmet baskets with their products (something I'm considering for fairs) but since I'm already an ind. associate with them and it's their products, I don't worry about insurance stuff. Best wishes to you!
Reply:I almost always suggest companies get liability insurance, but I am not sure how a basket can possibly lead to a lawsuit. Wait until you are profitable and then worry about the insurance. I'm sure you may think of some way you could get sued, and if that is the case definetely look into getting liability insurance.
But, I can't think of a single possible way someone can sue you, though I'm sure where there is a will - there is a way!
If you're already profitable then the cost of insurance shouldn't matter. If you're not profitable I would say wait. It's hard to get sued when you have barely sold a single basket. If your company is incorporated you need not get liability insurance unless the corporation has assets you value.
Reply:why dont you check with the company you have your homeowners with?
Reply:Dont be a dic, why would you need insurance
